Pack 22 encourage all to attend the Cub Scout Summer Resident Camp at Deer Lake in Killingworth, CT (~1 hours drive from Wilton). There are several sessions available at the camp (from mid July through mid August) but we have a critical mass of pack families interested in the following sessions and so these are the ones that we are going to officially support as a pack.
The first of these is their regular camp program aimed at cub scouts. Any ranks (Tiger - Webelos) can attend but their are specific activities geared towards helping Webelos earn activity badges. The second session is the "Family Weekend" and is open to any and all members of a family that has at least one cub scout. All family members are welcome. Deer Lake is a beautiful, farm-like facility about an hour's drive from Wilton specifically designed with the young camper in mind. You will camp in comfortable open-sided lean-tos in private camping areas and enjoy shower blocks and a central dining hall. So it's certainly not bare-bones camping by any means! Quite comfortable actually, the perfect place for an introduction to the great outdoors for cub scouts. Deer Lake isn't just about camping though, it's about doing things. It's an especially great camp for rising Webelos (current Bears) and Webelos 1s since it offers the chance to complete several of the core Webelos requirements including Engineer and Outdoorsman. Attending the camp will give your Webelos scout a real head start on their way to earning the Arrow of Light. The camp isn't just for Webelos and Bears though, any cub scout can attend and enjoy the activities. We have had Tigers and Wolves in attendance in previous years and they have had a great time. Activities include:
Every year there is an overarching theme for the camp and this time it's all about the Circus. So expect lots of costumes and fun! Costs: For the 3 night Cub Scout/ Webelos session:
For the 2 night Family Weekend:
Be sure to check out the attached brochures and also this video that presents the camp: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=c4a-YoLN7Sw If you are interested in attending then please reply to me (alan@alandavies.org) soon. We are a little late getting this information out to the pack this year and so there isn't too much time before the application deadline in early June. Places do fill up so the sooner you apply the better. I will provide additional information about the registration process to those who express interest. Best Alan |
